Welcome! I am a Lecturer of Political Science and a Faculty Affiliate in the Institution of Social and Policy Studies at Yale University.
My research and teaching focus on “participatory” forms of democracy, where ordinary citizens influence policy directly rather than indirectly through elected politicians. I’m currently working on a new book titled Beyond Elections, in which I study what leaders, citizens, and policy might look like when elections are replaced with random lotteries. I examine how these democratic lotteries might work in a variety of settings, including legislatures, the workplace, schools, HOAs, and other organizations.
